Tasty Humble Pie #TBSU

Do you know the Taoist story of the Chinese farmer and his son? If not, here’s a brief version.

A farmer has a strong young son. The neighbors say, “How lucky you are.” The farmer shrugs. The son breaks his leg and can’t work. The neighbors say, “How unlucky you are.” The farmer shrugs. The army comes and takes all the young men off to war, except the farmer’s son. The neighbors say, “How lucky you are.” The farmer shrugs.  And so on, and so on...
The point of the story is that we can’t see a big enough picture to know how something will ultimately turn out. The farmer knows that, but most of us are so caught up in the moment that we can’t help but react to ‘good’ and ‘bad’ news.

My Farmer Moment

I’m in the middle of a farmer moment myself right now. Twelve Nights shot up to #1 when it went for its Free Days on Amazon Kindle in early May. Amidst a frenzy of promotion, thousands of people all over the world downloaded copies. Of course, I was thrilled, happy dancing around the living room for days!
A small cloud appeared a week later when negative ratings began to appear on Goodreads. It seems some of the people who picked up the novel just because it was free ended up not liking it. The euphoria of having a #1 novel far outweighed the tiny downside. Overall though, I was quite happy to get back to a less promotional life, quietly blogging and walking my dogs.
Last week another of my novels, Who Is Candid?, was on Kindle Free Days. The downloads were in the hundreds, rather than the thousands. Same promotion. Same frenzy. Totally different outcome.

Can Humble Pie be Tasty?

Honestly, once the initial disappointment wore off (it took a few hours), I felt more in tune with the farmer than ever before in my life! It REALLY doesn’t matter! I kept on Tweeting and Facebooking the promotions, hopefully not obnoxiously, and at the same time I was laughing inside.
Already, by not feeling upset, I could see the upside of NOT having a best selling novel. My friends are amazingly supportive, some more upset than I am. When people are there for #1 and they are also there for #who-knows-how-low, you know you have strong real friendships! All sorts of new ways of supporting our friendships have occurred to me in the last few days. One is the book and blog trailer sharing on YouTube that I announced recently.

Thank You, Readers!

I also appreciate more than ever the readers of this blog, most of whom are nameless and yet keep visiting by the hundreds every day. The same day my novel had the least downloads, I found out that the blog had been nominated for 2014 Blog of the Year. The next day I was invited to a write regular guest post column on a popular website. How cool is that?! You can read my How To post every Saturday at Skelat.com, starting with How to Let Go of Self-Consciousness.
I like to imagine myself as the Chinese farmer, stepping back and scratching my chin. Truth is, it’s all good. The good parts are good, and the bad parts are also good. With a shrug of Taoist chin scratching, Life is Awesome!
And humble pie is really quite tasty!
Hardly humble! Thank you Molly Ann Wishlade for the photo
of your cranberry and orange meringue pie!

Have you had an experience that could have felt awful, and instead felt okay, even comfortable? How do you ride the wave of outward success and outward less-than-success? Please share your secrets for serenity, your questions, your doubts and affirmations, in the comments. I look forward to a lively discussion!

Amazon Best Seller! Has a Nice Ring! #TBSU

Update!

Wow! What a day this has been, what a rare mood I'm in!  ♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪

No wait, it's not love, it's Amazon rankings!!

Thanks to YOU, my wonderful friends and readers, Twelve Nights climbed to the #3 ranking on Amazon Kindle Erotica today.

And in Germany? #1!! Danke sehr sehr sehr viel!

Two days ago, Twelve Nights was a relative unknown in the Amazon Erotica World, lowly enough that it wasn't even ranked. I actually thought of the free days promo as a lead in to the launch of Beauty of the Beast. Today? Well, the words stunned, gob smacked, elated, thrilled, and GRATEFUL all have new meaning.

Gratitude and Appreciation!

The greatest of these freshly defined words is Grateful! I'd like to publicly thank some mentors and friends, without whom... wait a minute... this isn't an Oscar speech. Okay, huge thank yous (buy their books, read their blogs, everyone!) to

  • Molly Ann Wishlade, one of my first Twitter friends who makes every day brighter and is a tremendous RTer!
  • Nathalie Thompson, who suggested we mentor each other back before any of this started for either of us and has been a steady friend ever since
  • Seumas Gallacher, whose support and enthusiasm make all things possible. #TBSU!

Greatest thanks of all goes to the people that I've met and become friends with through the energy waves of the Internet, and especially to the amazing readers of this blog.

Beauty of the Beast

The fun isn't over, folks! Twelve Nights is still FREE on Amazon through Thursday. And in just seven days, Mary Jane Andrews of Beauty of the Beast makes her bow as the newest Carole Remy heroine. Like Aggie, Angela, and Lucy, Mary Jane is smoking hot, smart, and independent, more than a match for the man of her dreams. Especially when it turns out that she's been the woman of his sexy dreams for quite awhile!

Mark your calendar! Mary Jane is about to unleash the Beauty of the Beast!

If you have a blog and would like to participate in the Release Day Blitz, let me know and I'll send you a press kit with everything you need. The Blitz has been organized by Roxanne Rhoads, owner of Bewitching Book Tours and another great supporter of my novels! Everyone, feel free to download, copy, and distribute this badge (created by the ever amazing Marissa) in any way you wish!

As always, I look forward to your thoughts and comments! Once things settle a little, I'll think about how all this relates to the Law of Attraction. What do you think? Best manifestation ever, right! Happy dance!

KDP Free Days Wedding Night Jitters! He Said, She Said, He Said! #TBSU

Just to get the message right up front, Twelve Nights is going for a free spree on Amazon!

Marissa created this beautiful badge! Please copy and share it!

To make it easy for everyone to download a copy of the book, the worldwide links are at the bottom of this post.

On to the Co-Post!

Seumas Gallacher and I decided to try a little co-blogging. Turns out it's almost as much fun as some other co-activities we all enjoy! You can find this same post on Seumas's blog too! While you're there, give yourself a treat and read some more of his posts. He's unique and a treat to read!

Take it away, Seumas!

… literary promiscuity works... the well-baited fishing line thrown out in yesterday’s post by Master Gallacher has snared its first success… here’s yer maiden offering of a JOINT BLOG... from a fair maiden in her own right… my friend AUTHOR CAROLE REMY... she of the prolific noveling ilk… about to dip her prosaic toe into the enticing waters of the Kindle Select Program Free Promo… allows her post to be wrapped by commentary from this old spider lurking in his own tentacles of the WEB… Ms REMY encapsulates so well the angst, the trepidation, the JITTERS… oh bluudy hell, the absolutely mind-freezing scariness of letting yer wee baby into the clutches of the KGB...no, strike that, I meant the KDP… being of a more capricious bent than my ally, Ms REMY, when I first linked up with KDP, I harboured no doubts as I entered yet another one-night stand with the femme fatale of the indie publishing world… or was that a five-day stand?… and I must ‘fess up … I have not LUVVED ‘EM and LEFT ‘EM… I’ve LUVVED ‘EM and LINGERED. KDP has been gentle with me… let’s find out what Ms REMY thinks of it all… here she is:

She Said...

My first marriage was to Royalty. The wedding was lovely, posh and all. I even received a small dowry. At the time, I was young and naive, and didn’t know enough to have wedding night jitters. Besides, there was no performance evaluation for six months! What more could a first time bride want.

The marriage went the way so many marriages do these days. The first six month’s Royalty Statement was stellar! Our baby was a grand success! We immediately had another, also a winning performer! And then Royalty’s interest began to wain. He didn’t show up for our child’s starring role in the school play, missed soccer matches, you know the story. Royalty just wasn’t interested in promoting our children. We eventually divorced when I declined to have a third child with a disinterested parent, and that was that.

Now, I find myself on the eve of another wedding night, this time to Kindle Direct Publishing Free Days, filled with the jitters my first wedding never provoked. Of course, I have the reassurance that this marriage is forever. KDP can’t divorce me and my darling offspring Twelve Nights without also canceling all it’s other two million partners. Publishing is a polygamous, but equal, enterprise these days. And I know that this wedding night is but the first of many occasions for free-spirited bliss.

The Law of Attraction tells me to feel successful and abundant, and really, I do! I love my life, and book sales are the icing on an already delicious cake. Mmmm, wedding cake. Did I remember to call the caterers? I put in twelve orders for company Tweets, and invited all my friends to celebratweet with me. The Facebook invitations are in the mail. The wedding is even being filmed by my other new partner, T. N. Mohan, the producer who just optioned my Twelve Nights baby for her own movie!

And yet, I have the jitters. The problem is that tomorrow morning when I wake up, my new partner is going to give me a by-the-numbers evaluation of my performance. I don’t know if I can stand it!

Seumas, I need a hug!

He Said....

…Seumas here, Carole… settle down, m’Lady.. it’ll be all right on the night… mega-hugs aplenty to you… just don’t wanna make your new KDP beau jealous…
…to all you wunnerful Lads and Lassies of the Blog Land out there, your support for Carole’s virgin traipse into Freebie territory will be much appreciated…
…the promo starts on Monday morning, April 29th,  00.01 am Pacific Time and here’s the links…
Given the international audience for this blog—thank you! thank you!—I've expanded the list with links to all the Amazon pages.
If you'd like to chat with me or Seumas, drop us a comment! We'd love to hear from you!

Twelve Nights Optioned as Independent Romantic Comedy Feature Film! #TBSU

Wow! What a day! This morning we finalized the deal, and Twelve Nights is now officially optioned as a feature length romantic comedy film!

Producer T. N. Mohan is best known for his film Hanged on a Twisted Cross, "a gripping documentary, narrated by Ed Asner, that captures the life, times, and thought of theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer." Eight feature films directed and/or produced by Mohan are displayed on his Amazon page.

Mohan has been teaching for the last three years, and has chosen Twelve Nights as the vehicle to jump start his return to active film making.

Here are Mohan's words on why he selected Twelve Nights.

I've had my eye on Twelve Nights since it was originally published. When I found it again on Amazon, I was thrilled. Perfect project, perfect timing for me. I see the movie as Shakespeare meets Bollywood meets Valentine's Day.  The novel is mainly in dialogue, which makes it easier to translate to the screen. The story is lively and the characters are well-developed. As Carole Remy says, Twelve Nights is a sexy fun romance. For our film, we're taking out the graphic part, but the movie is going to be a solid hour and a half of sexy fun.

An International Movie!

The production of Twelve Nights (BTW the title may change) will be truly an international effort. The screenwriter and director will probably be Canadian. Then again, Jimmy's home location may move to Scotland! I could see him as Scottish, couldn't you? Who knows? The movie could be set in Toronto or Montreal, or even London, Frankfurt, New York, or Madrid! As you can see from his previous movies, Mohan has produced and directed all over North America and Europe. What an adventure!

Yesterday was a day of amazing, emotional, super-charged positive energy. The Law of Attraction says that you attract more of what you already have, and boy, has that proven true today! I am filled to the brim with gratitude, and you can imagine how eager I am for tomorrow!

Join us for a conversation in the comments. Who do you see as Jimmy and Richard? How do you imagine them? Who should play Aggie and Angela? One actress or two? What about Danny, and Monica? So many actors! So many choices! Names, people, names!

If you have questions, suggestions, or comments for T. N. Mohan, he'll be stopping by to chat too. Take advantage of this opportunity to ask a movie producer all the behind the scenes questions you've been curious about for years!

It's a party! Join the happy dance!

New Sexy Fun Erotic Romance Book Covers!

One of the amazing things about online publishing is that you can keep refining your publicity!

One of the exhausting things about online publishing is that you can keep refining your publicity!

It may have looked for the last few days on the blog as if I've been totally obsessed with the 2013 PATA Manzanillo spay/neuter campaign. That would be true! And now our little rescue puppy Chito needs help with his medical bills. Please check out these posts if you haven't already.

Back in book world, things have been progressing nicely behind the scenes. Today we're ready to reveal a whole new cover look to the Carole Remy Sexy Fun Erotic Romance novels! It all started with an epic cover fail... just a teaser... this Frankenstein's monster fail is so epic it gets its own post—watch for it!

When we got past the epic fail, the movie-poster-quality cover for Beauty of the Beast inspired us to reinvent the other two covers as well. Here's a sneak peak of the Beauty cover, which will get the whole reveal treatment in a few days. I LOVE this cover!!

Once we found the perfect Sexy Fun font, we decided that each cover deserves its own Sexy Fun Erotic Romance tag line. So that's what we did! The changes to the Twelve Nights cover are minor, just the new tag line and a little tweaking. Aren't the girls beautiful!, and intriguing, and a little bit scary...

The cover for Who Is Candid? got more of a makeover. Since Candid aka Lucy is being chased by the paparazzi and the entertainment magazines through most of the book, we thought it would be fun to try a magazine style cover. Finding just the right font to look tabloid-ish and still book-ish was a fun challenge. Then we moved the Sexy Fun Erotic Romance tag line up the page, down the page, into the middle of the page, until finally (like Goldilocks) it felt just right! Peekaboo! Who Is Candid?

So, what do you think? My personal challenge was to get past looking at the covers as art, and to start thinking of them as cereal boxes. Yup, cereal boxes! The breakfast browser in the supermarket aisle wants to know if they're getting corn flakes or granola, and the same goes for the novel browser on Amazon.

So now you know—if you like independent women and masterful men, and you think laughing is erotic, these Sexy Fun Erotic Romances are for you!

What do you think? Have you had a book cover adventure of your own? Do these covers start to create a brand identity (like Kellogg's cereal!)? I'm looking forward to our conversation!

An Addendum—How The Tour Relates to the Law of Attraction

The Book Blog Tour is having a big impact on my emotional life. First of all, I feel incredibly supported and grateful! Roxanne and nine readers' blogs are all working to help people discover my novels! How amazing is that! Feeling so appreciative and so cuddled at this moment tells me I can expect more of the same. Ahhh...

The hours spent writing the guest posts don't feel like work. I looked at all the blogs and planned out fun topics in advance that felt like they fit the particular site. As the time comes to write each post, I look forward to getting my thoughts on paper! The fact that the writing is fun and easy tells me that this is the right path for me, right now.

If something feels difficult or makes you uneasy, the best thing to do is to pause. Paying attention to the little signs keeps the big catastrophes (which mean that the Universe has been trying and trying to get your attention...) at bay. I recently ignored a little personal niggle and got hit with a (somewhat gentle) whammo. It's an ongoing process...

Everything about the Book Blog Tour is pure and simple joy. Doesn't get any better than that!

Thanks for stopping by! If you have any questions or comments, I'd love to chat!

Going on a Bewitching Book Tour!

The plans are coming together!

Starting March 1, I'm officially a client of Bewitching Book Tours. They'll be arranging blog visits, giveaways, reviews, and all kinds of fun promotional activities. If you'd like me to visit your blog, just ask me or BBT. I'm happy to do guest posts, interviews, and whatever else you can dream up. You'll get a press kit complete with goodies like a cover photo and a review copy of the novel you want to help promote!

I'll be doing a blog tour for the whole month of April, 2013, featuring my fourth novel, Beauty of the Beast. We'll hold a giant release party in early April. Be ready to PARTY!

The button on the left leads you to BBT's website, where you can keep track of all my blog visits, giveaways, and other promotions.

The Carole Remy Novel Line-Up!

Did you do a double take when I said fourth novel? Where's number three?? It's coming, and soon! I'm starting to feel like a baseball team. Here's the line-up.

Twelve Nights is available now on Amazon.
Two stunning female twins + $120,000 + Two lonely horny men = Sexy Fun!

Who Is Candid? is on Amazon too!
Lucy, aka Candid, is a naughty girl who takes a sexy fun road trip
across America, and tells everybody all about it!

Fantasy Impromptu

The third book, to be released early in March [note: now postponed until July], will be Fantasy Impromptu. The cover isn't quite ready, but here's the photo we'll be using. My daughter took this pic of a statue in Ireland when we were visiting there last Fall. A sexy young thing just wasn't right for this cover, and this photo captures the mood of the novel perfectly. Wait till you see the magic the awesome cover designer Marissa Lepe Preciado works with this one!

I'll write a whole post soon about Fantasy Impromptu. It was an erotica best seller in the print edition, and is still available on Amazon for a whopping $136! That's for a used copy of a $6 paperback! Thank you fans! So plan to save yourself $133 and get the e-book version for only $2.99.

Fantasy Impromptu is a different sort of novel from Twelve Nights and Who Is Candid?, more of an in depth journey into a woman's sexual soul. And the sex is... Whew! Chantal explores ALL kinds of alternatives...

Beauty of the Beast

The fourth novel, coming on May 7, is Beauty of the Beast. The cover is awesome, but I'll keep it as a surprise for now. The print edition of Beauty of the Beast was an erotica best seller too, and consistently sold for about $120 as a used book on Amazon for several years. Beauty is the original Sexy Fun erotic, romantic love story, set in 1950's Texas. Young reporter Mary Jane Andrews isn't sure what SM is, but she's heard that it's going on outside Austin, and she's determined to investigate. Oh, yes!

Locked and Loaded!

Bewitching Book Tours is creating the press kits as I write. Let's get this traveling pony show on the road! Just contact me or BBT with your ideas, and we'll make it happen.

Ideas and comments? Are some fans of the original paperbacks lurking out there? Anyone want to give kudos to BBT? As always, I'm eager to hear your thoughts.

Twelve Nights! "We're on Amazon, Boo!"

Overheard at the Teahouse in Stanley Park, Vancouver, February 12, 2:00 pm

Image Courtesy of Sequoia Company of Restaurants

Aggie: Take a look at this, Angela. Our story is on Amazon!

Angela: You mean Carole finally got it ready? About time.

Aggie: Be nice, Boo! Oh, look. The first reviewer likes Jimmy!

Angela: Who doesn't like Jimmy? What does it say about me?

Aggie: Um... it says you tricked me.

Angela: And that's it? I tricked you?

Aggie: Well, you did. Let's see, it says we're stunning. Oops, that's the publisher.

Angela: Let me have your iPad. Oh look, we're fun and smart. That's better.

Aggie: Ha ha. I can't wait to show Jimmy.

Angela: Calm down and drink your coffee. Jimmy probably saw it days ago. Doesn't he own half of Amazon?

Aggie: Oh shush, Boo. Let's order dessert. We're celebrating!

Angela: Okay, what can we get for $2.99?

Aggie: Nothing. Why $2.99?

Angela: That's all the book costs! Ack ack - gotcha, Boo!

If you'd like to ask Aggie and Angela a question, put it in a comment. They'll answer you right away, promise!

Twelve Nights Location Photos - Woohoo!

Today I learned how to use Pinterest. Who knew technology could be so much fun!!

My novel Twelve Nights takes place in New York City, in Auburn, Alabama, and mostly in Vancouver, Canada.  I went to Google images and looked for photos of the specific places in the novel, and found 13 great shots! I uploaded them to Pinterest, then annotated each one with a spicy comment, and Voila! Now there's a Pinterest board that illustrates the Sexy Fun story of Twelve Nights.

You can see all the photos at my Pinterest page. Just for fun, here's a preview of some of my favorites.

This is the Vancouver Hotel, where Jimmy and Richard think Aggie is staying. The two best friends have no idea they're both falling in love with TWO devious, stunning, identical twins.

This is the luxury suite that Jimmy reserved for Aggie, which she's never seen, but then Richard and Angela end up here and... you know.

This is the hotel where Aggie and Angela are actually staying, hiding out while their plan unfolds.

This is the walkway along English Bay where Jimmy accidentally runs into Aggie and Angela's dad. Awkward.

Can't have a love story without a bedroom, right? A photo like this one inspired Jimmy's over-the-top hideaway, only he also has a giant round bed. Oo la la.

Check the Pinterest board for eight more photos!

Hee hee! This is so much fun! What do you think? Would you like to see a board like this for each of my novels? How about for every novel you've ever read? Me too!

Talk to me in the comments. I'm eager to hear your thoughts.

Hugs,

Carole
