Live in Joy, Today! #TBSU

This past week, I've lived in a different world, immersed in the animal rescue sub genre of spay/neuter. The campaign lasted five days. We spay/neutered about 150 cats and dogs; the camaraderie was joyful; the connection to the four-legged beasts was intense; and the physical exhaustion is still with me.

Why does such an experience come into a person's life? The Law of Attraction states that we attract experiences into our lives through our vibration. Feel joy, get more joy. Feel frustration, get more frustration. I'll go a step further and posit that what happened for me this time is that some interior subconscious nerve center sent out a message that I was ready to learn something more about myself, to peel back another layer of the never finished onion.

Six Months of Bliss

Moving to Mexico in January 2011, where I can't work because of my visa, forced/allowed me to relax from wanting to achieve anything.

I lived happily in the moment, with enough money to live what felt like really well. My pension didn't quite make it through the month in the US (and didn't leave any room to buy health insurance). Suddenly I had plenty to rent a nice house, eat out whenever I wanted, learn salsa dancing and wood sculpture, and hire a wonderful woman to clean. Free top quality health care was an incredible bonus and anxiety reducer!

The Seeds of Wanting More

Then about two years ago, I spent an interval in the lap of big time luxury. Anything I wanted was bought for me. I was taken on a lovely trip, all expenses paid. Returning to Mexico, the seeds of discontent awoke. My beautiful life was exactly the same, but it didn't feel like plenty any more. I began to want the money to start an extensive animal shelter. I began to want, period. An old internal barrier to happiness reawoke.

With the benefit of two years hindsight, I see now that I had already begun to be attracted to seductive friends, ambitious wonderful people who wanted and were attracting fame and fortune. Exactly the people to eventually bring me to my present day awareness.

Putting my Novels on Amazon Kindle

In January 2013, I made the decision to put my backlist novels on Amazon. It was something I'd been thinking about for years, and suddenly the time seemed right. Two of the novels had been quite successful in print, and I saw Kindle as a way to bring in passive income to run an animal shelter.

I threw myself into action, setting up a presence on Facebook, Twitter, and this blog. Formatting the novels for Kindle, and contracting beautiful covers. Dipping my toe in the deep waters of Goodreads (which I still haven't figured out). I loved it. I still love it!

Working is seductive. Anyone who has tried retirement knows this. The temptation to find your identity in what you do, in external monitors of success, is overwhelming.

But...

The harder I pushed, the more elusive external success became. With zero expectations, my first novel shot to #1 on its initial KDP free days. Woohoo! Few sales, but my name was getting out there. Then the KDP free day promotion for the second novel, with high expectations, was a flop. Six months of ten hour days, seven days a week produced only a small check from Amazon every month.

Slowly social networking became a bit of a chore, still fun, but whew! A lot of work. The impulse to push, push, push, began to feel a little off. Then with a huge aha, I realized that I don't need to fund an animal shelter myself. Colima is doing GREAT on the animal rights front, with eleven protection associations and new legislation criminalizing animal abuse. From exactly where I am right now, I can help all I want. Without the financial impulse, the promotion began to feel even more like work.

Ambition is Not Present-Centered

When we focus on future success, we project wanting. From the Law of Attraction, we know that wanting can only bring more wanting. The deeper truth is that even when we get exactly what we prescribe, the Amazon ranking, the agent, the publisher, we will only want more. The movie deal, better promotion of our masterpiece, the billion dollar success of J. K. Rowling. Several well-known authors are good friends. Only one of them, Anne George, was truly happy with her publisher, and Anne was already about the happiest person I knew, surprised and pleased by every publishing success, small or huge.

So why did I attract someone who indulged my unacknowledged desire for wealth? Why have I surrounded myself with dear ambitious friends? Why have I put my novels on Kindle and worked my butt off for six months?

We can only feel JOY right now

I did all these things because in some corner of my heart, I hadn't completely accepted that living right now is the only joy. A piece of me still believed in the IF-ONLY scenario. If only I had LOTS of money, I'd be happy. If only my novels would sell a boatload of copies, I could help animals. Last week was the final piece of that jigsaw puzzle, when I was neck deep in helping the four-legs, without needing anything other than my presence.

Another impulse toward living in this moment, right now, is my elderly dog. Gemma is twelve, and my desire to travel, to plan fun trips to see relatives and/or exotic places, has been put on hold. Gemma no longer does well when I leave, so I'm not leaving. Simple. Equally disastrous for me is the future scenario of her death. I refuse to spend our last months unhappily anticipating the future without her. Not. Happening. Every hug, every walk, every snore in the middle of the night is pure joy!

What does it all mean?

Last Saturday (July 6, 2013) my guest post on living in the present was published by Skelations. Another take on the same topic will be published there on July 27. I've taken a week off promoting and proven to myself yet again that the sky did not fall. Relaxing now with the physical aches of a sore hip and the remnants of overall exhaustion, a couple of layers of the emotional onion have peeled back.

One realization for me is that I want my novels to be available. I want them out there in the public marketplace. Selling or not selling is nowhere near as relevant as availability. So thank you, Amazon Kindle. Huge thank you! The people who like my novels REALLY like my novels. That's what matters. One reader who writes me because they 'get it' is a lifelong connection that I would miss out on if the novels weren't for sale worldwide.

Another realization is that I can do exactly as much or as little as feels enjoyable in the moment. If I don't post for a few days, so be it. Without pressure, the fun comes back. I really do love tweeting! Thank you to my generous, funny, and loving Twitter friends! Even Facebook is mostly awesome, and I love keeping in touch with people's lives through their photos and updates.

Yet another reminder recently is that I LOVE the intellectual side of writing, reading, and discussing novels. James McAllister and I have started a correspondence about his amazing and complex novel iNation, and I'm loving it! Molly Ann Wishlade and I share ideas and encouragement on our novels all the time. I love reading the thoughtful posts of  Thomas Rydder (My Road to Better Writing), Cassandra Page (Writing), Kristen Lamb (everything!), James McAllister (iNation), and many, many more wonderful writer bloggers!

Anyone who would like to talk novels, contact me! Huge advance hugs!

I don't want anything!

The final layer for me is to say happily and openly, I don't want anything!! Woohoo! Repeat after me, I don't want anything! I don't want ANYTHING! Life right this instant, this very second, is complete and amazing and plenty.

Thriving on the Roller Coaster of Life #TBSU

Many people these days feel like they are riding a roller coaster of emotions. Among others, Law of Attraction bloggers and my (generally non-blogging!) Mexican shaman friends agree that

♫♪♫  The times, they are a changin'.  ♫♪♫

As my friend Seumas Gallacher so eloquently put it in his blog post today,

... the highs and lows in any walk of life are a matter of fact… zoning in on Writers/Authors/Quill-Scrapers in general, prob’ly more so… the joy, blood, sweat and tears of producing the masterpiece… the angst of waiting to see how it fares in the Big Bad World of Publishing... the despair when even one bad review gets registered… the ecstasy when it’s praised by sumb’dy ye don’t even know… there’s the ultimate in roller-coasting emotions…

A Taoist Perspective

So here we are as writers, in a profession that offers perhaps even more opportunity than most for higher highs and lower lows. And here we are as human beings, in a time of rising global vibration, which brings with it a natural resistance to change = major tension!

Looked at from a Taoist perspective, events in our lives rise and fall. In an earlier post I recounted the story of the Taoist farmer. If life is an river, we can learn to float, which doesn’t mean living a superficial life, but rather being adaptable and accepting, even enjoying, each variation. Huck Finn is an exemplary Taoist!!

It's easy to feel alone when we're in a trough.

Here are Seumas' words on the mingling of laughter and pathos.

… years ago, an English comic genius, Norman Wisdom, had a signature song, ‘Don’t Laugh at Me, ‘Coz I’m a Fool’… the switch from the laughter to the pathos evoked with the song made it all the more poignant for me, and it still does… looking back over the decades, I’m struck by how strongly the chord still resonates with me… the humanity, and the humility, all wrapped into a few minutes of music from a man who made millions laugh for his living… the life lesson is there for all to learn… (my word, Mabel, this sounds serious, eh?)… no matter how any of us is generally perceived by our fellows,  there’s usually at least more than one facet to our individual personalities…

And my response...

Pondering these words about perception and personality (uh oh, danger, thinking!), the metaphor that comes to mind is the ocean. Aspects of who we are rise and fall like waves, but the reality is more vast and complex than even we can perceive. Others mostly see only a peak here and there.

Can we view each other as beautifully complex, even fractal? Can we acknowledge and relish the fact that what we see is only one facet of an immensely rich sea? Even further, perhaps we can sense that just as you are an ocean and I am an ocean, we are actually the same ocean? Whew! There's a thought exercise!

Seumas wouldn't be Seumas if he didn't have an uplifting conclusion.

... hark back to yer man, the incomparable Norman Wisdom… his technique encapsulated  the ability to laugh at himself… and THERE’S the lesson… I suggest we should correctly take our work, our profession, our craft seriously, but never, ever take OURSELVES too seriously… humour is a wonderful release from all sorts of daily stresses.. and MY easiest target for it?… Master Gallacher himself... oh, and you can laugh at me too, if yeez want

Humor = Laughter = Joy!

Not taking ourselves too seriously. Laughing a lot. Realizing that today's mountain is tomorrow's molehill. This is the simple formula for navigating the ups and downs, for floating on the river, for adapting to the world's rising energy with glee rather than despair.

Going back to the ocean metaphor, while complex and profound, we are also simplicity itself. Just as the ocean is water, we are joy. As Seumas points out, humor is the linchpin. The humility of a drop of salt water, the fun of dancing in a spring shower—that’s us!

Thank you to Seumas Gallacher for his kind permission to interweave his post and my reaction! I hope you've enjoyed our shared thoughts. How do you navigate the ups and downs of life? Are you feeling like 2013 is a roller coaster of a year? Where do you find everyday joy? Please join the conversation in the comments.

Pawn to Queen Six, and Gratitude Unlimited! #TBSU

Yes, I know that Pawn to Queen Four is the standard opening (thank you Google). Pawn to Queen Six, on the other hand, could be the brilliant set up to checkmate, or it could be the random move of a beginner (me!). And that's the point.
a good basic intro to chess
Tonight I find myself on the last night of my First Kindle Free Days adventure. Pawn to Queen Six. When you're in the middle of an adventure, you can lose sight of the simple fact that you are on one carousel, riding one pony of many, in a great big fairground of life! For a few days, I got so caught up in the game of tag-you're-it, that I forgot about the big picture.

That's not an apology. Tag is a LOT of fun! Being immersed in the moment is intense, fulfilling, and... fantastic! If this were an erotica blog, I'd say orgasmic! (*cheeky grin*) BTW, you can still download Twelve Nights for free through midnight Pacific time today! Tag! You're it!

Now that this one lovely game is winding down, the mosaic of the big picture is coming back into view. The next game is about to begin, when Beauty of the Beast unleashes on Tuesday, May 7. In the breathing space, here are a few observations.

Friendships Are Cemented When You Work Together

Global Internet friends—movie making friends, hugging friends, recipe sharing friends, family photo sharing friends, Law of Attraction friends—all came together to promote the heck out of the Twelve Nights free promo days. You know who you are, and for those who don't know, you can read a whole post about them here.

We're a disparate group who met through each being my friend. Now it feels like I have a true band of brothers (and sisters). Seumas Gallacher's Vengeance Wears Black goes on free days at midnight tonight? We're on it! When Molly Wishlade's Desire in Deadwood debuts in August, we'll be there!

My gratitude is unlimited!

I Love Giving Away My Books

Kindle Free Days are a strategy to sell more books. My brain knows that. My heart is so joyful to give my books away, I could burst! If I put all my novels free on Amazon all the time, I'd be in heaven! [All right, Ms Brain. I won't do it!]

I worried that I would obsess about the numbers (curse of the mathematician). Did you know that you can track downloads click by click? My worst nightmare guilty pleasure! Instead, because the books are free, watching the downloads is fun. I won't check for hours, and then happy dance around the room, again!

From a Law of Attraction perspective, generosity is about the best gift you can give yourself. When you are generous, you feel abundant, and feeling abundant brings more and more abundance into your life. So thank you to the thousands of readers who downloaded Twelve Nights!

My gratitude knows no bounds!

Things Change in an Eye Blink

With the first of May, all the posts on the blog from April vanished off the front page, into the depths of the archives! I loved April! It's seems silly, but I miss seeing the gecko post on the sidebar. How could One Global Tweet, One Earth disappear from page one? Of course, they're still here, and often posts pick up more readers later than immediately. Google search engine, I love you!

Some changes I welcome. Whew! I can go back to tweeting normal non-promotional stuff and not feel like I'm abandoning my Twelve Nights baby in the middle of her first free spree.

Over three days, Twelve Nights climbed from unranked to #1. It's on its natural way back down now, dropping more slowly than I had anticipated, actually. Still #6 at last count. If you are ever doing a KDP free fling, my observation is that the greatest number of downloads came on day 2. Just for reference.

A small surprise for me is that I'm just as happy as the ranking falls as I was on the way up. Not as giddy, mind you, but internally I'm feeling very content! Yet another lesson in welcoming change. Ahhh...

My gratitude is endless!

Please join me in the comments! I'd love to hear your thoughts. What are you grateful for? What fills you with a sense of abundance? Tell me about change, small or large, and how it affects you. Do you welcome change? Does it scare you, or make you sad? But first of all, how the heck are you doing today??

One Global Tweet, One Earth

The smallest thing happened today, and yet it altered my life. The tiny thing was that a friend was signing books at a book fair. Without giving it much thought, I tweeted a message, "If you're in Abu Dhabi, visit my friend Seumas Gallacher's book signing at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair."

It didn't hit me until a couple of hours later, when Seumas and I were chatting about the book fair on Twitter. We might has well have been chatting over coffee at a local cafe. Our conversation felt that casual and comfortable. We signed off with hugs and sleep well's that felt like the real thing.

Earlier in the afternoon I'd been chatting with my friend Molly Wishlade. We joked about eating peanuts for dinner, peanut butter for me and peanut satay chicken for her. She was savoring a piece of cheesecake that I wanted a bite of. Thing is, Molly lives in Wales, and I live in Mexico. We were chatting on Twitter.

What struck me, and I know it isn't news, but my heart's community, the people I interact with on a real, daily, and personal level, is now global.

I'm used to the idea of a long-distance family. My children live thousands of miles away, and we talk on the phone and Skype several times a week. Same with my sisters and some cousins. About a year ago I started following Melody Fletcher's blog, Deliberate Receiving, where I learned about the Law of Attraction. We email and Skype often, and she's become a third daughter. Melody lives in Barcelona. Close connection with family at a distance isn't a rarity for me.

It's not that I'm isolated. I live on an ordinary family street in Mexico, and have conversations daily in Spanish with neighbors ranging from young children to great-grandparents. Friends invite me to dinner and we go to the movies. Volunteering in animal rescue is a social as well as a spiritual activity. I love salsa dancing! In person community isn't lacking from my life.

Today felt like something different. What struck me today is that my life has been enriched a thousandfold by my global friendships. I'm deliberately avoiding the adjective 'virtual,' because the friendships aren't virtual, they're real.

Nathalie Thompson in Ottawa is as real, alive, and vibrant a friend as my amiga Sara here in Colima. Melody in Spain, Seumas in Abu Dhabi, Molly in Wales, Lori Gosselin in New Brunswick, and many other lovely people ALL OVER THE WORLD are now an integral part of my life.

Readers come to this blog from across the globe as well, and though I don't know all your names, I feel your presence. Welcome to, at last count, 9071 readers from China, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Germany, India, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Russia, Singapore, Romania, Brazil, Greece, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Austria, Canada, Maldives, France, and many other countries!

Shamans say that global energy is rising. That our vibration as humanity is lifting us into a new level of consciousness. Today, I felt it. With one little tweet, I realized that my heart has expanded and a whole new One-Earth has flooded in!

I wish for every one of you the same joy that I feel. I wish for you more hugs than you could have imagined for a lifetime. I wish for you sunshine and rain and green and volcanoes puffing in the background.

Thank you every single person on the planet, thank you every animal and plant, thank you every rock and every molecule of water, thank you for existing! And thank you, dear and lovely readers, for sharing the journey!

Please share your thoughts, your musings, your questions, and your hugs. I look forward to a wonderful conversation!

And if you're in Abu Dhabi, drop by and visit Seumas. He'll be at the book fair all week.

This doesn't feel like a regular post, so I'm skipping, at least for now, the usual add-ons of other posts to visit and blogs to follow. Do click the links in the post and meet some fantastic new friends!

Blogging, the Law of Attraction, a Union, and Bats! What??? #TBSU #BAT

Last night I finished Seumas Gallacher's The Blogger's Guide to Absolutely Nothing. This isn't exactly a book review, though I do urge you to buy the book and enjoy a few hours of fun with an upbeat message. The Blogger's Guide is a humorously presented appeal to be our better selves, and all in a Scottish accent that I love and won't even try to duplicate.

Whether you go to Amazon and buy the book or not, do yourself a favor and subscribe to Seumas's entertaining blog. It's joined my very short list of daily reads.

What I want to write about though today, is something a little different. Seumas' philosophy of life and blogging got me thinking. I had been moving in the same direction, but reading his words pulled it all together for me. And it all ties in with the Law of Attraction, wouldn't you know.

The Money Bugbear

A few days ago, Nathalie Thompson at Vibe Shifting generously published a guest post I wrote. You can read all about my slightly twisted relationship with money, and how I recently got clarity on a little piece of the bigger issue. Letting go of the need to be the rich American who funds the Mexican dog rescue is a huge step for me. Huge! My ears are popping all the time, which is my own little personal sign from the Universe that energy is shifting. Pop, pop. There it goes.

Now, I am not, have never been, and probably will never be a rich American. I live in Mexico because I love it, with the giant added benefit that I live nicely on a relatively small pension. The urge to fund a rescue shelter had led me to release my novels on the Kindle market in the first place, to hit the jackpot of sales for a good cause.

The first day I 'met' Seumas, and I can't even remember who introduced us, I was in the middle of a partial meltdown. If I wasn't promoting my books because I needed lots of money for the dogs, why was I putting in twelve hour days tweeting, blogging, and Facebooking, not to mention trying to figure out Goodreads and now Google+? Arggg!

Here's the Law of Attraction part.

When I was ready to realize that the pressure to fund dog rescue was a purely self-imposed strain, the Universe put the lovely Nathalie in my path, to invite me to write a guest post, which gave me the opportunity to wrestle through to a happier emotion.

That's how the LoA works. Even when you're not ready, the opportunities are all there. You just can't see them. When you finally drop the blinders, the resolution is so clear and simple it makes you weep, or jump around doing a happy dance!

And here comes the Law of Attraction again. Just when I'm struggling with the next layer of the onion, I meet someone who can articulate a clear vision of where I'm going and why I'm going there. Thank you, Universe! Thank you, Seumas! I didn't even wallow for very long—just a day or two. When you open yourself to change, it comes roaring through.

The Evolution of a Blogger/Human Being

By now I hope you're really curious about what this message is that I've learned, or reaffirmed, from reading The Blogger's Guide. It's simple really, and it's more like a booster shot for things I was already doing. We can blog from a spirit of generosity, nothing more, pure generosity. Seumas does, and I can too. Just share. Joy, bounty, encouragement, kind words. Just share it all.

Tweet this, okay? I have no idea how to set it up as a link. Maybe you can figure it out.

Just share. Joy, bounty, encouragement, kind words.

Just share it all.

What Seumas communicates effortlessly, and what he reminded me of in The Blogger's Guide, is the sheer joy of touching lives and being touched. He writes about how he stumbled into the fun of blogging after starting his blog as a purely promotional tool. Me too! I realized about a month ago that what I really enjoy about blogging is not the promoting, but the writing about all the amazing things in my life. If you happen to see a book cover and want to buy a book, Woohoo! But it's kind of secondary to the other fun.

Right now, last night, today, I needed that reminder and I was ready to listen. And there were Seumas and The Blogger's Guide, ready to nudge me in the right direction!

#TBSU

Seumas has a group called #TBSU, the (arrg, I can never remember what the letters stand for!), okay, The Blog Scratcher's Union. It's a hashtag for bloggers who support each other's writing: You scratch my back, I scratch yours. As of today, please consider me a member.

If you are a blogger and reading this, consider putting #TBSU on your posts and Tweets. It's like a secret (but it's not a secret) handshake to other bloggers. You help me. I'll help you. Go to Seumas blog for a complete explanation of how it all works, or read the book! (Woohoo! A plug!)

My minor addition takes the idea a baby step further.

#BAT (We could have a bat signal, or something!)

When I meet a blogger that I like, I want to read their posts. Not just the new ones, but all of them or at least most. Sifting through a whole blog full of archives is way too much. So what I propose is that the #TBSU adopt the additional hashtag of #BAT to identify a Blog Archive Tweet! There are some bloggers out there who are brilliant at tweeting me into reading their archives, and I really appreciate it! Check out

@CassandraPage01

@Kevin_Hanrahan2
@MindfulHealth

@VibeShifting

to name just a very few master archive tweeters. What makes this tactic work is that every single one of the archives they tweet is well worth reading! I search the Twitterverse for posts from them to read and RT.

Tweet Your Best Archives with the Hashtag #BAT

How about if we make it a little easier, folks? Tweet your best archives, the ones that don't lose their timeliness, with the hashtag #BAT, Blog Archive Tweet. You'll make my Twitter searching easier, and maybe the idea will catch on through the #TBSU world! We can tweet and share and spread the joy not only across space but across time!

I don't want to imply that I have any kind of endorsement from Seumas for #BAT. He has never heard of it before reading this post. And I hope I'm not shamelessly hanging my hat onto an already hugely successful hashtag. It just seems to me that maybe we could all have a little more fun, and make our blogs just a little more alive.

So what do you think? Are you already using #TBSU? If not, why not start? When you discover a wonderful blog, do you like to read archived posts, like me? Would you look for the hashtag #BAT? Will you start using it? As always, I'm eager to read your comments! How about a lively discussion of the joys of blogging? Thank you again for starting the conversation, Seumas. And y'all—buy his book!

Oh yeah, oh yeah. And buy my books too, okay? The links are on the right side of the page. Whew! Marketing done. Check.

    Encouraging Words from Nathalie Thompson

Welcome to our third Encouraging Words guest author, Nathalie Thompson! Nathalie came into my life through our mutual interest in the Law of Attraction. We quickly became friends. This spring, Nathalie started an exciting, creative new venture called Vibe Shifting, all about raising your energy and living an awesome life!

In addition to being friends, I'm an avid follower of Nathalie's wisdom as displayed on her various sites. Her words are always wise, kind, and uplifting. Plus she's Canadian! I lived in Canada for 27 years, and seeing Canadian spelling again is great fun! Introducing Natalie to my amazing and wonderful readers is a true pleasure. Enjoy!

    Hmmm... What to Write?

When Carole asked me to write a guest post for her blog, I was excited; I’ve never been asked to be a guest writer for anyone before, and I was honoured. I was also, however, at a little bit of a loss.

What does one write for the audience of an erotic romance blog? I had a vague idea for using the lyrics of one of my favourite songs as a starting point (the chorus would have tied in well with the whole steamy thing), but it just wasn’t working – the inspiration was not there.

    Finding an Authentic Voice

And then it occurred to me that the reason I was not inspired to write was because I was trying to be something I’m not. I was trying to write something with a romance novel kind of twist to it, and that is just not my style. It’s not me. And while I probably could have banged something out, it just wouldn’t have been believable.  I realized that in order to write something well, it has to be written in your own authentic voice. It has to be a showcase of your own style; letting your own personality and the song of your own soul flow through every line.

And I also realized that, just as this is true when writing, it is also true of life. Each of us has a unique perspective and a unique blend of talents and skills, preferences and desires. The exact recipe of things that makes one person’s heart sing is different than what makes another’s sing. And these differences are vital to the music of the Universe because it is this harmony of viewpoints and interpretations, voices and experiences that creates the beautiful symphony of our existence here.

But that harmony can only exist when we allow ourselves to be who we are. Most of the problems we encounter in life are a result of trying to be something that we are not. They are the result of lying to ourselves, in an effort to fit into roles or occupations or situations that we were never meant to fit into. They are the result of listening to voices that are not our own telling us what we should do, what we ought to do, and what is most logical, rational or reasonable; the voices that tell us to reign in that which makes us unique so that we may better fit in with the expectations of those around us.

    Live Your Unique Heart-Song!

The problem with this is that when we try to negate our own self-ness in order to fit someone else’s, we smother the unique heart-song within us, distorting our beautiful, natural melodies. And then we suffer in the dissonance it causes, because it is not possible for us to ever truly become something we are not. There will always be that element within us that rebels against those constraints with everything it has, and we can never be truly happy while this conflict rages within.

You have nothing to give the world if you’re trying to be someone else because that someone else has already got it covered. But you have everything to give by remaining true to who you really are. Your thoughts, your views and your voice mean something; they are critical components of the masterpiece that is the Universe. Your story matters and you are the only one who can tell it. Believe in yourself, and be true to the best within you, and you will find that your happiness and creativity overflows as you share your unique gifts with the world.

When you find your centre there are no limits to what you can, and will, accomplish. Find your heart-song; find the melody that is yours alone and let it sing! Make a promise to yourself, today, that you will be the best that you can be.

Publish or Perish vs the Law of Attraction!

Used to be "Publish or Perish" was a phrase used mainly in university circles, where publishing prestigious  articles and books was key to promotion. Now popular fiction novelists are opting into the hyper-pressure to produce book after book.

Several times over the last few days I've read posts about how we need to be super-productive as writers. Each post has been well-meant and well-written, and according to the Law of Attraction, a little wrong-headed.

Whatever You Push Against Gets Stronger

If you feel that you must produce four novels a year in order to keep up sales, guess what? You WILL need to produce four novels a year. The phrase self-fulfilling prophecy is a pretty accurate description of how the Law of Attraction works!

If your novels sell quickly at first and then sales die off, and that becomes what you expect, that's exactly what will continue to happen. If you give away 90,000 books in order to sell 10,000, you will continue to need to give away massive numbers of your novels. Why? Because you are going to continue to get exactly what you expect to get.

Where the Compulsion to Produce Comes From

Where does the need to write four novels a year come from? Notice, I said need to write, not take huge joy in writing. If you generally find great joy and satisfaction in writing, then you can skip to the next section.

If writing often feels like hard, begrudging work, here's what may be going on emotionally.

    Thinking Woman by George Hodan

You may be worrying that readers will forget you.
What the Universe hears: I'm not worthy of being remembered.
What you will get: More opportunities to feel unworthy, because the Universe can only reflect back to you your resonant frequency of unworthiness!

You may become anxious when sales are low.
What the Universe hears: I like feeling anxious.
What you will get: More opportunities to feel anxious, because the Universe can only reflect back to you your resonant frequency of anxiety!

You may feel that marketing your novels is a constant struggle.
What the Universe hears: I like struggling.
What you will get: More difficulties and disappointments, because the Universe can only reflect back to you your resonant frequency of struggling!

You may feel you need more money! (don't we all!)
What the Universe hears: I like feeling needy and lacking.
What you will get: More desire for things you seemingly can't have, because the Universe can only reflect back to you your resonant frequency of lack!

    You get the idea.

How to Break Out of the Cycle

Since the Universe can only give you what you line up with emotionally, the first and only step to break free from compulsion and anxiety is to change your present emotional reality. Here are a few suggestions.

    Suggestion #1

Relax with your beverage of choice and think back to when you REALLY loved writing. Let yourself experience those emotions over and over.

Woman Drinking Coffee by Petr Kratochvil

Smile! Feel the joy and exhilaration of putting yourself on paper. Stay in that moment of bliss for as long as you can, and imprint the emotion on your consciousness. This is what you want the Universe to bring you more of!

    Suggestion #2

Remember the first happy, encouraging feedback you got as a writer. Maybe it was a teacher, or your father, or a friend who loved your ability to spin words into beautiful stories. Stay in the moment and imprint it. You can actively ask the Universe to bring you supportive readers. When you are truly inside the emotion of feeling appreciated, the Universe will bring you more of the same!

    Suggestion #3

Feel grateful to every single person who reads and enjoys your work. Every single one! Even better, thank them! When you let go of the thought that there should be more readers, and hold onto the emotion of gratitude for those who appreciate your work, you will find that readers flock to your books. Gratitude springs from abundance, and when you feel abundant, you attract more and more opportunities to feel abundant!

    Suggestion #4

Imagine one of these supportive readers telling a friend about your novel. Feel how awesome that feels, and how grateful you are for their support. Sit in the moment until you really feel joyful. Now imagine that that friend tells another friend about your novel. Holy schmoly! Gratitude squared!
Line Of Women In Black by K Whiteford

Now stay with that emotion until you REALLY feel it. Once you've got the emotion, let your mind drift into imagining more and more friends telling their friends about your novel. Oh yes, Universe! Bring me this!

    Suggestion #5

Now and only now can you go back to the computer, or desk or couch if you write by hand. Keep the wonder, keep the sense of your work being appreciated person by person, the joy of your words rippling out. If you still feel like writing four novels a year, if that practice embodies your happiness, do it! Not from a sense of fear or need, but for pure joy.

The Universe will bring you more of the emotion you feel now. We always get back what our emotions, consciously or unconsciously, are projecting.

The Law of Attraction can't bring you book sales. If it's money you want, remember that it can come from many different sources. Hold onto the feeling that you are already living and will continue to live an abundant life. Stay inside the joy of writing, and let the Universe take care of the details.

Please share your thoughts on enjoying the process of writing. How do you keep the demons at bay? What suggestions can you add to these five? Have you experienced the Law of Attraction in your life? What was the outcome? As always, I look forward to a lively discussion!

Wait! Change! It's the Law of Attraction!

The Carole Remy blog came into being on January 14, 2013. But something didn't feel quite right.

      The Value of Waiting

Following the Law of Attraction and Taoist principles, I immediately stopped posting and waited for inspiration. Waiting is a really important aspect of the Law of Attraction, one that is often overlooked. If something doesn't feel quite right, keep paying attention, but pause.

Two weeks later, the blog fell into place, and it's been humming ever since. What was off in the first place? I had thought exclusively of marketing my erotic romance novels. I'd looked at lots of writers' blogs, liked what I saw, and thought I would do the same thing. Trouble is, that's not me.

To work for me, this blog needed to be an expression of my life, something personal. It needed to include animal rescue and the Law of Attraction, for starters. Both are integral to my life and needed to be well represented on this blog.

Why Waiting Works, and Boy, Does It!

Why does waiting for inspiration work? It can be frustrating to do nothing when you want to do something, anything! Trouble is, doing 'something' often ends up being counterproductive, if it's not the right something.

The willingness to wait is a neon signal to the Universe that you are ready to receive abundance in whatever form it comes. When we act too quickly, it's like we're saying, No thanks for your help, Universe! I know best. When we relax and wait attentively for signs that we're on the right path, the world opens before us. What looked like giant obstacles become fun jumps on the agility course of life! (You knew I'd get dog agility in here somehow, right?)

How do I know the pause worked? Once I included dog rescue and the Law of Attraction on the blog, it was like I released a giant sigh, Yes! This is me, this is right. And readers responded immediately. The blog's bounce rate is under 20%. That means readers come for one post, and they stay to read more, a lot more. Yeah!

      Learning as You Go

One of the wonderful aspects of Internet publishing is that you can fix things! Whew! It took several tries to get a look for the blog that feels right. Unlike with a print magazine or newspaper, the earlier versions have vanished into the ether.

The same is true for the e-book versions of my novels. Twelve Nights and Who Is Candid? have gone through two cover changes and three blurb changes each, in just two months! And Beauty of the Beast, releasing on May 7? Check out the post about the Epic Fail Frankenstein Book Cover!

Being Open to Change is Part of the Law of Attraction

Just as waiting is an often ignored aspect of the Law of Attraction, so is willingness to change. When we are open and flexible, we see opportunities. When we let go of the notion of being right, we can recognize better options, which we can then let go of for even better options!

How does willingness to change fit into the Law of Attraction? The underlying principle of the LoA is that  your present energy attracts similar future energy. Joy attracts more Joy. Rigidity unfortunately is also self-reinforcing. If you think one path is the only way, you aren't even going to see all the more useful paths open before you.

So even if you love, adore, and cherish the current cover of your novel, be aware that an even more awesome cover might be possible. In fact, the changing covers of my novels are a perfect manifestation of this phenomenon. I LOVED each original cover design. Because I loved, adored, and cherished each original cover, the Universe placed before me the opportunity for even more adorable, lovable covers!

The secret to successful, tranquil change is to truly love where you are now, but without clinging. Adore your awesome life, but keep your eyes and mind open to mind-blowing possibilities!

Have you ever waited for just the right moment? How did that work out? Are you comfortable with change, or does it scare you? Please join the conversation! I'm eager to hear your thoughts.

      Epic Fail Frankenstein Book Cover!

First, Happy Friday! Krystal's Enchanting Reads is featuring both Who Is Candid? and Twelve Nights today. Head on over for excerpts and a guest blog I wrote especially for Krystal. Thank you, Sweetie!

      Playing Dr. Frankenstein

The Law of Attraction says that when something seems hard, the timing just isn't right. Well, this time I didn't listen. The cover design process of Beauty of the Beast is a perfect example of,

If it's right, it's easy. If it's not easy, it's not right!

First let me introduce Marissa Lepe Preciado, my amazing assistant who is the prime mover in building the book covers for my novels. Marissa is also a medical doctor who is studying to become a veterinarian. Working part-time for me fits her study schedule, and boy, do I win on this one!

      Yes, guys, she's single!

We found a photo on Shutterstock weeks ago that looked absolutely perfect for Beauty of the Beast. The girl in the photo is youngish and innocent, maybe a little young but not too far off. She's eye-catching. There's a storybook feel. The clothing could be 1950's, when the novel is set. Her hair is long and reddish and wild. Perfect!

This was the first photo I ever bought from Shutterstock. We were convinced she would be our best cover ever! First hint that all would not go as planned was that it was impossible to use the photo as the full/cover and still fit in the title Beauty of the Beast. Since Twelve Nights and Who Is Candid? have full cover photos, we wanted to keep things consistent, but there was just no way. So Marissa put her in a box.

And then we started really looking at her... She doesn't look exactly happy. A little stunned, which fits the story, but she needed to look thrilled as well as stunned. Also, Mary Jane is quick-witted. We had to do something about the eyes and the mouth. Dr. Frankenstein begins.

Overnight, I picked out half a dozen different eyes and mouths. One mouth that I liked for the smirk. Some people's eyes just look intelligent. Did you know that you can type "intelligent eyes" into Google Images and actually get beautiful, intelligent looking eyes?

So, now Marissa would just put in the new eyes and mouth. I tell you, she's talented!

      Okay, this mouth didn't work!

Brighten up her own lips, not so good... But you may notice that the eyes have a different sparkle. Turns out there's an app to sparkle up eyes. Who knew?

Here she is with the best eyes we could find, and her own mouth at an angle. We thought maybe we could fake a smirk that way. Not so much... We did find a font for the title that we liked and ended up using. Marissa also created the Sexy Fun Erotic Romance tag line, which I love!

Let's see. What else did we try? We searched and found the model's name, not easy, and found unretouched photos of her, even harder. Everything was in Russian, which slowed us down a bit. I didn't buy the photos, so I won't post them here, but you can find her on Google Images. Her name is Valeria Bondar, and she really is lovely! We read about the photo itself, which the photographer had deliberately altered to make the model look like a lifeless doll. Unfortunately for us, he succeeded!

Marissa widened her face—the real model had lovely broad cheekbones. She tried two or three more mouths. The one above is a noticeably spectacular fail! And then we gave up.

We went back to Shutterstock, looking for an EASY cover photo! Within five minutes, we found the perfect photo. What I loved first is that she's wearing a towel, which is a signature for Mary Jane in the novel. Then I noticed, she's gorgeous! Okay, the red hair color isn't 1950s, but... she's stunning! Thirty minutes later, the Beauty of the Beast cover was complete. And although a mother isn't supposed to choose among her offspring, I have to say this is my favorite Sexy Fun Erotic Romance cover!

Moral of the story, If it's right, it's easy. If it's not easy, it's not right!

I hope you've gotten a chuckle from our adventures playing Dr. Frankenstein. It occurred to me at one point that with the old photo, my novel might be mistaken for necrophilia! Frustrating as the repeated epic fails were, they did keep Marissa and me laughing.

Have you had a cover adventure you could share? Have you tried and tried at something, and then when you gave up and started over, it came easily? I can't wait to hear your stories!

Thankful Tuesday! Bloggers, Family, and Friends!

I thought for this Thankful Tuesday, I'd share some mementos that make me think of cherished family and friends. I'll write about each of them in a minute.

First, I want to thank all the blogs that have hosted my novels this month! Please check out these posts and give them some love! The links go directly to the reviews of Twelve Nights and Who Is Candid?, and to my guest blogs (except the last two, which aren't posted yet).

Let me start with a big thanks to Roxanne Rhoads and the team at Bewitching Book Tours, who put it all together! If you'd like to book me for your blog in April for Who is Candid? or in May for the launch of Beauty of the Beast, please contact Roxanne or me directly.

NOTE: The spacing is somehow messed up, but I'm publishing the list anyway hoping you won't mind too much. Marissa, the beautiful tech whiz, will fix the HTML tomorrow. Arggg! This is what I get for trying to fix it—I made it worse!

      Thank you all!!!

And now to the friends and relatives who enrich my life on a daily basis—You are appreciated! Here are a few mementos I keep in the bedroom to help me feel close to loved ones who are thousands of miles away.

My daughter Margaret brought me back this Buddha from I think Phuket, somewhere in that part of the world! She travels with her job and brings me back thoughtful gifts that each reflect my taste and beliefs. Daughters are awesome!

My sister Maggee painted this hand for me on a glove mold. It's become a perfect symbol for me, as I now use my hands practicing Reiki. And it's a great place to hang other mementos!

My daughter Lynde found these snowflakes in Alabama and brought them to Mexico to put on our Christmas tree. I love them!

Here's the tree Margaret made and Lynde adorned. Best tree ever! Best Christmas ever!

Ganesh is my hero! He's the Hindu elephant god of new beginnings and prosperity, and he rocks! I have six Ganeshes in my house, including this one my sister Patricia brought me from India. This Ganesh is reading! Perfect!

My friend Marissa Lepe Preciado crocheted this cat for me. We do animal rescue together. I'm allergic to cats, and she wanted me to have a pet cat!

When I left Alabama for Mexico, my friend Peggy Howland invited me to pick something from her mantle to take with me, to remind me of her loving care! I picked this butterfly, who is lovely and strong, just like Peggy!

It doesn't take a lot of stuff to create a home. These few mementos are home for me, wherever I live. Each reminds me of someone who holds a permanent place in my heart.

What mementos are special to you? Who would you like to thank for being part of your life? If this post inspires a phone call, or an e-mail, or a hug—Woohoo! Have a fabulous Thankful Tuesday!
